JAIF is also working hard to promote nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament in the international community.
Promotion of Cooperation in Asia
JAIF corresponds systematically and effectively to cooperation requests from Asian nations, where the development of nuclear technology has progressed rapidly in recent years. Its main activities are making arrangements, conducting research, maintaining communication and public relations related to nuclear cooperation.
Given the ever increasing importance of cooperation among Asia countries, JAIF reorganized in 1999 the International Nuclear Cooperation Center which was formed in 1983 into Asia Cooperation Center and set up the Office of the Coordinator to support regional collaborative activities by the "Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia", an international framework for cooperation which was set up by nine neighboring Asian countries.
JAIF also set up Jakarta Liaison Office in 1993 as a base for promoting mutual understanding and strengthening exchange of information in nuclear energy among Southeast Asian countries. The office is now deeply engaged in a variety of activities and keeps track of the latest trend of nuclear power in the region.
The goal of the Asian Cooperation Center is to promote mutual understanding, to coordinate views, and to strengthen cooperative relations in the field of nuclear science and technology.
