{"id":1733,"date":"2016-01-14T06:31:27","date_gmt":"2016-01-14T06:31:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jaif.or.jp\/en\/?p=1733"},"modified":"2016-01-14T06:35:05","modified_gmt":"2016-01-14T06:35:05","slug":"eu-eases-restrictions-on-food-imports-from-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jaif.or.jp\/en\/news\/1733","title":{"rendered":"EU Eases Restrictions on Food Imports from Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On November 25, 2015, the EC\u2019s Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed endorsed a proposed revised regulation covering restrictions on Japanese food imports due to radioactive materials, based upon which the revised regulation was issued.<\/p>\n<p>Food from the following prefectures will no longer require inspection certificates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vegetables, fruits (other than persimmons), livestock products, <em>soba<\/em> and tea produced in Fukushima Prefecture.<\/li>\n<li>All food originating in Aomori and Saitama Prefectures.<\/li>\n<li>Rice and soybeans originating in six prefectures (Iwate, Miyagi, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma and Chiba).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The effect is that restrictions on products\u2014including those from Fukushima Prefecture, the site of the accident\u2014have been eased substantially.<\/p>\n<p>At a press conference on January 8, Japan\u2019s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga welcomed the easing of \u201csome fixed restrictions,\u201d adding that Japan would continue to urge South Korea and other countries with bans on food imports from Japan to do the same.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On November 25, 2015, the EC\u2019s Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed endorsed a proposed revised regulation covering restrictions on Japanese food imports due to radioactive materials, based upon which the revised regulation was issued.
