The reactors are owned and operated by the Kansai Electric Power Co. (Kansai EP).<\/p>\n<p>Now, having mentioned his great surprise about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaif.or.jp\/en-renew\/government-omits-description-of-maximum-utilization-of-nuclear-power\/\">the change<\/a>, Governor Sugimoto has asked that Japan \u201cdraw a clear picture of its energy future\u201d in the next Strategic Energy Plan. On June 9, the governor had an online conversation with METI State Minister Kiyoshi Ejima, conveying to him the prefecture\u2019s thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>At the\u00a0end of April, METI Minister Kajiyama had explained the need for the sustainable use of nuclear power and R&amp;D on next-generation reactors toward the achievement of the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>Describing as \u201cessential\u201d nuclear power\u2019s being able to account for a 20% share in Japan\u2019s energy mix by FY30, the minister told the governor that the future direction would be clarified in the next Strategic Energy Plan. The governor then agreed to the 40-year operation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5348 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jaif.or.jp\/en-renew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/ejima-e1623744484486.png\" alt=\"METI State Minister Ejima\" width=\"310\" height=\"331\" \/>METI State Minister Ejima explained the change of wording in the proposed Green Growth Strategy, saying, \u201cIt is in conformity with the current fifth Strategic Energy Plan.\u201d He then said that the government\u2019s direction on nuclear power in the future \u201cwould certainly be addressed in the process of revising the Strategic Energy Plan.\u201d He went on to say that he would \u201cwork responsibly\u201d in line with what Minister Kajiyama had said, toward the issuance of the next plan.
