In response to requests for cooperation from the government, FEPC has newly assigned approximately 30 additional personnel to the project. Combined with the more than 90 personnel already dispatched, the total number of secondees now stands at approximately 120.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press conference, FEPC Chairman MORI Nozomu stated that the Nuclear Regulation Authority\u2019s review meetings on the plant\u2019s Design and Construction Plan approval are progressing smoothly and that explanations to the regulator are expected to be completed after one more review meeting.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that the completion and full-scale operation of the Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant are essential to advancing Japan\u2019s nuclear fuel cycle policy. Mori stated that FEPC will continue to support JNFL from both management and technical perspectives in order to achieve completion of the facility within the current fiscal year.<\/p>\n
In 2022, FEPC established the \u201cNuclear Fuel Cycle Promotion Task Force\u201d to identify challenges and develop solutions related to the completion of the plant, and has since been providing support to JNFL.<\/p>\n
In addition, FEPC announced in March the establishment of the Rokkasho Mirai Co-Creation Project<\/strong>, a general incorporated association formed jointly with Rokkasho Village in Aomori Prefecture and JNFL.
