The MOC establishes a framework for cooperation that leverages the complementary strengths of the three countries’ nuclear industries to support the introduction of SMRs in partner countries. A key objective is to promote fleet deployment models, in which standardized reactor designs are built and operated sequentially across multiple projects. The three governments said this approach could reduce project risks, improve economies of scale, streamline licensing processes, strengthen supply chains and encourage private investment.<\/p>\n
To support the initiative, the United States announced more than US$10 million in additional funding for the Foundational Infrastructure for Responsible Use of Small Modular Reactor Technology (FIRST) program. The funding will support SMR projects in the Indo-Pacific region and establish a regional training hub to develop the workforce needed for future SMR deployment.<\/p>\n
Separately, the U.S. Department of State announced that GE Vernova, Hitachi, Samsung C&T and Poland’s Synthos Green Energy had agreed on a cooperation framework to accelerate deployment of the\u00a0 in Europe.
