The purpose will be to share internationally, through the online presentation, the current state of research on advanced cancer therapy technology using radiation and accelerators, and on the development of related equipment.

The program will start with keynote presentations by Ms. May Abdel-Wahab, director of the IAEA’s Human Health Division, and Hiroshi Tsuji, MD, Ph.D., director general of the QST Hospital. It will then show technical presentations under the theme of “Frontline of Radiation Oncology Technology Development” prepared by three Japanese manufacturers of radiotherapy equipment: Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS), Hitachi, Ltd., and Sumitomo Heavy Industries. The facilitator of the program will be Koji Noda, Ph.D., the executive director of QST.

The IAEA General Assembly in 2020 will be held from September 21 to 25 at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna. This time, due to the spread of COVID-19, ambassadors in Austria will represent their countries, and the General Assembly sessions will be aired live via the Internet.

The Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF) will cooperate in the operation of the virtual side event by running a conference via WebEx and offering support in English.
