Landside Impermeable Wall, or “frozen wall,” completed its construction on February 9, 2016 and started freezing from March 31, 2016. It is a system designed to create a frozen soil barrier around Fukushima Daiichi Units 1-4 to prevent water from flowing into the reactor basements.
