The projections were made in relation to the determination of the outlook for energy supply and demand before energy-saving measures are taken.

Concerning the projections, one member urged a consideration of future expected changes in industrial structure. Meanwhile, representatives of industrial organizations observing the meeting said that issues facing various industries should also be aired, including the limits to energy-saving measures.

The subcommittee chairman, Masahiro Sakane, councilor of Komatsu Ltd., suggested that “everyone should thoroughly discuss how much can be achieved by conserving energy and using renewable energies,” citing energy-saving efforts by his own company. He emphasized that the first step in energy-saving activities was “visualization.”
