Poland plans to construct three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in the municipality of Choczewo, Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the northern part of the country. In March 2026, the Polish state-owned nuclear power company Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) submitted an application for a construction permit to the country’s nuclear regulatory authority, the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA).

The latest contract covers the reactor containment vessel and large steel modules for one of the three planned units.

IHI has previously supplied containment vessels for AP1000 reactors at Vogtle Units 3 and 4 (PWRs, 1,250 MWe each) in the United States.

IHI has identified its nuclear power business as a growth area and has outlined plans to strengthen its production capacity and workforce while investing in next-generation reactor technologies, with an eye towards expanding into overseas markets.
